It’s February! Already! Anika is participating in Letter Month: “mail at least one item through the post every day it runs”. She wrote her first two letters to her Senators as part of the Women’s March Organizer’s 100 Days of Action.
Black Lightning is moving to The CW, which Sam hopes is a good thing because there will be crossovers with Supergirl?
GLAAD released its yearly nominees for its 2017 media awards. The whole list is here. Sam has thoughts on some of them (mostly the sad lack of wide release movies), but the comic section is pretty great overall.
Star Trek Discovery is in production! Finally!
Anika is rewatching The Good Wife in anticipation of The Good Fight. She’s halfway through season three and wants to impart two thoughts:
- The completely bonkers politics of our present were not so far beneath the surface even in the fictional Chicago of a left-leaning television series set during Obama’s presidency and somewhat inspired by Bill and Hillary Clinton. That’s not say our Trump situation is normal AT ALL, just that we need to address the system that put them in power as much as the reality of them being in power.
- Kalinda Sharma is the hero we need and Archie Panjabi should play Batman. (P.S. Do you watch Blindspot? Should Anika watch Blindspot?)
The next best thing to Archie’s Batman:
In an attempt to be better informed about the history of the presidency, Anika is joining in the challenge to read a biography of every U.S. president. So far she’s bored, but she’s hopeful. In other book news, there are more Rogue One novels coming soon, including a Baze and Chirruit novel from Greg Rucka!
Her Universe has a new Carrie Fisher/Princess Leia tribute t-shirt:
Proceeds from the Self-Rescuing Princess Tee will benefit The Thalians, whose mission is to raise the funds it will take to educate and enlighten the world about mental illness, thereby eliminating the stigma attached to it.
