That trailer! I don’t know how you feel, but I thought the Logan trailer was pretty great. Set a tone, introduced us to the world, showed is an exciting new character… I’m sold. I think it made good use of Johnny Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nails’ Hurt, too, which is always nice to see.
If you haven’t seen it yet:
Unfortunately, March is kind of a long time away. (Not as long as June for Wonder Woman or whenever we’re getting the Captain Marvel movie, but ahem.) So until then, here are a few things that I immediately thought of when I saw the trailer, which might fill the time between now and then with similar tones or stories.
The Wolverine
Okay, a little obvious. And sure, the last 1/3 of the film sort of falls apart. But it’s by the same guy directing Logan (James Mangold) and, really, the first 2/3 of the movie are actually pretty solid. IMO, the best version of Wolverine we’ve seen on screen, so far.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
Probably the movie about a grizzled loner wandering a future desertscape until he’s called upon to protect people, right? I flip-flopped between recommending this and Fury Road, but this one falls more in line with what we’ve seen of Logan, all 90 seconds of it, feral child included.

The Last of Us
This game is about a grizzled, damaged man and a special young girl who travel the country after horrible events have led to the decimation of the population. If you’ve watched the Logan trailer, that probably sounds familiar. And, in fact, Logan’s look in the trailer reminds me a lot of the look of Joel, the main protagonist in The Last of Us. If you’re looking for daddy/daughter feelings in your gaming, look no further. Plus, it’s a surprisingly good morality tale. And besides that, it’s a really beautiful game to play and though the gameplay itself can sometimes be frustration, if you have a PS3 or PS4 this is a must. (Get the Left Behind DLC, too. You’re welcome.)

Old Man Logan
Fifty years in the future, Logan’s a cranky old dude and life is terrible. So, you know. He’s Logan and the future Marvel universe is the future Marvel universe. But clearly the film is taking a lot of queues from this series, so it’ll probably be a good read to slip in before March.

X-23: The Complete Collection
I actually haven’t read all of the issues collected in this omnibus, but it’s definitely on my to-do list now. Laura Kinney is most likely that little girl in the trailer, the one Logan’s protecting, and the one who grows up to be Wolverine (more on that in a sec). Now’s a perfect time to delve into this character if you never have before. Or delve deeper, if you’re like me. I loved Marjorie Liu’s work on her, and it’s in this collection.

All-New Wolverine
After the most recent Secret Wars (I have no idea what happened in Secret Wars!) Laura became the new Wolverine! Yay! I haven’t read the series yet (I’m currently in a fight with Marvel’s pricing and haven’t sucked it up and subscribed to Unlimited yet) but friends say that the series is pretty good. Y’know, if you’re into X-Men (I usually am not).
